Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.” |
The Gallipoli Campaign, also known as Dardanelles campaign was a military campaign that had taken place during the first ever World War. During the time period 1915, the Ottoman Empire had been occupying the Turkish straits. As they were a central power, they were a threat to the allies Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand and Russia. Winston Churchill, who was first lord of the admiral team had proposed a plan to get the British navy back into the fight, as there were mostly trench wars, which Britain wasn’t as prepared for. The allies sought for a way to weaken the empire and push them back, by taking control of the Turkish straits they could seize the waterways. They were also hoping to gain access to the black sea, which would be used to transfer material and goods to Russia, who were in need of them. Along with that, hoping to convince neutral countries such as Greece, to join forces with the allies. The waterways provided international passageways between the Aegean sea, to the Mediterranean sea which officially leads to the black sea.
